What is School Marketing?

Marketing is fundamentally about meeting needs. The key components of School Marketing are communication, promotion and partnership however School Marketing is much broader than the promotion orientation often associated with it. School Marketing is as much about retaining the pupils a school already has, as it is about enrolling new ones.

Communication

  • Effective School Marketing occurs when a school purposefully communicates its vision, values and services to current and prospective pupils and their families as well as the wider community.
  • A strategic school understands that it determines what at others perceive.

Promotion

  • A strategic school takes responsiblity for ensuring  that the large and small successes of students and staff are acknowleged in the wider community so that the school is perceived in a way that reflects reality.

Partnership

  • The challenge for school leaders is to find out what the needs of their school community are then meet those needs through effective communication and strong partnerships with parents, caregivers and the wider community in order to produce enhanced learning for students.
